Lake Weiss Fishing Report December 2015

GON Staff | November 25, 2015

Weiss: Level: 4.8 feet below full pool. Temp: High 50s. Clarity: Light stain.

Bass: Good. Guide Mark Collins reports, “Bass fishing is good with the cooling trend, and a lot of bass are being caught shallow in 3 to 6 feet of water. The shad are moving to the back of the coves and creeks, and some good bass are starting to move to secondary points and shallow roadbeds. The bass are following the baitfish. Shallow-running crankbaits are working well, and Rat-L-Traps and spinnerbaits are also producing some bass when they are feeding more aggressively. The topwater bite is good early and late, also. Some good spotted bass are being caught in the upper Coosa River on the edges of the river channel and the log jams in the Riverside Camp Ground area.” For a feature article with techniques and 10 December GPS locations for Weiss bass, see page 74.

Crappie: Guide Mark Collins reports, “Crappie fishing is good, and they are being caught on structure on the Coosa River channel ledges in 14 to 20 feet of water. Spider-rigging with live minnows over cover is producing some good fishing. I am starting to see a lot of quality 12- to 14-inch crappie. Shooting docks with jigs is producing some good crappie, also.”
