Lake Weiss Fishing Report August 2016

GON Staff | July 28, 2016

Weiss: Level: 0.8 feet below full pool. Temp: Upper 80s. Clarity: Light stain.

Bass: Guide Mark Collins reports, “Bass are on their usual summer pattern on deeper cover, under deeper docks and on the creek and river channel ledges, humps and submerged roadbeds. They are being caught on medium- to deep-running crankbaits, 1/2-oz. spinnerbaits, Carolina-rigged plastics and jigs. The topwater bite is still strong on deeper banks and seawalls early and late. Stringers of 20-plus-pounds have been winning the tournaments all year.”

Crappie: “Fishing is good, and most fish are on the main Coosa River channel ledges in 12 to 16 feet of water, and they can be caught spider rigging with minnows,” said guide Mark Collins. “Night fishing is getting good under lights and over structure. A few fish are still being caught under docks shooting jigs.”
