Lake Weiss Fishing Report August 2015

GON Staff | July 30, 2015

Weiss: Level: 0.1 feet below full pool. Temp: 87-89 degrees. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Guide Mark Collins reports, “Most bass have moved to deeper structure like brushpiles and river-channel ledges, but some good bass have been caught shallow around the weedbeds on deeper banks, especially after the big storms and rain. For the ledge fish, try jigs, spinnerbaits, Carolina rigs and deep-running crankbaits. Flipping docks with jigs and worms is producing some good fish, also. The spotted bass are on rocky banks, river channel ledges, submerged roadbeds and main-lake points.”

Crappie:
Fair. “They are in deeper water on cover on the flats and the river channel ledges,” Mark said. “Spider-rigging with live minnows over cover in 12 to 16 feet of water is producing some fair crappie fishing right now. Night fishing under lights and on docks is producing some crappie.”

Striper: Good. Mark reports, “Stripers are being caught in the main lake on the old river channel ledges and in Little River and the lower Chattooga River. Use live shad downlined 8 to 12 feet deep, and also try a couple of flatlines.”

Catfish:
Mark said, “Catfish are biting good in the deeper flats of the lake on cut bait.”
