Lake Weiss Fishing Report April 2018

GON Staff | March 28, 2018

Weiss: Level: 1.4 feet below full pool. Temp: Mid 50s. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Guide and tournament pro Mike Carter reports, “Bass fishing has kicked into another gear, and the fish are very aggressive and feeding up to get ready for their spawn. Covering a lot of shallow points and stump-filled flats with 1/4- to 1/2-oz. Rat-L-Traps and Echo crankbaits has been the ticket for some aggressive action. These areas can also produce some solid quality fish with Choo Choo Lures Shakers and spinnerbaits being fished around stumps, laydowns and shallow docks. The lake still has a lot of stain in most areas due to the recent flooded conditions, but now it is showing some good clarity as the weather and lake level gets back to normal. You got to love the action Weiss can produce this time of year.” Guide Mark Collins reports, “Bass fishing is great. A lot of good bass are being caught in the flats off the channel ledges and on main-lake and secondary points with shallow-running crankbaits, jigs and jerkbaits.”

Crappie: Guide Mark Collins reports, “The bite slowed this past week from the cold front and high winds. The bite will pick up again quickly with warming trends. They are being caught long-line trolling with Jiffy Jigs in colors JJ01, JJ08, JJ13, JJ17, JJ20, JJ31 and Mark’s blue. The best areas are Little River, Big Nose, Yellow Creek, Bay Springs and Church House.”

Striper: “Fishing is poor on the lake as most stripers have moved up the Coosa River near Rome for their run.”
