Lake Weiss Fishing Report April 2013

GON Staff | March 27, 2013

Weiss: Level: 1.6 feet below full. Temp: Low 50s. Clarity: Very stained to muddy.

Bass: Very good. Guide and tournament pro Warren Barnes reports, “The bass fishing on Lake Weiss has been great largemouth and spotted bass are in the prespawn and spawn stage. Flipping a Reins Ax Claw and rolling a Revenge spinnerbait has been the pattern of choice for these fish. A Tackle Doctor shaky head paired with a Reins Swamp Mover worm is also catching lots of fish for me right now. Throwing this bait in and around spawning areas will pick up some of those larger roaming females. I am also finding largemouth around docks and blowdowns. Flipping A Revenge Flippin Wacker with a stick bait has been the best bait for the docks. As we move into May, I would look for the bass to be in postspawn. Slow-moving buzzbaits or weightless stick baits are going to be a good bait of choice.”

Crappie: Excellent. Guide Mark Collins reports, “The crappie have really turning on over the entire lake, from the Power House lake to the bays and creeks in the upper lake, most all areas are all producing some great fishing. A lot of stringers of 40 to 60 fish are being caught. Long-line trolling with 1/24- and 1/16-oz. Jiffy Jigs in colors JJ05, JJ13, JJ17, JJ20 and JJ33 and marks new special ice blue. A lot of crappie have moved shallow in the bays and creeks of the upper lake.”

Striper:
“Fishing is poor as most stripers have made the run up into the rivers for the spawn,” Mark said. “Mayo’s Lock and Dam on the Coosa River is where most of the stripers are being caught.”
