Lake Weiss Fishing Report April 2012

GON Staff | March 28, 2012

Weiss: Level: 1.5 feet below full pool. Temp: Mid 60s. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Good. Guide Mark Collins reports, “A lot of the largemouths have moved to the backs of the creeks and coves on a prespawn pattern. A shallow-running crankbait in shad patterns are working awesome right now. Spotted bass and largemouths are being caught on secondary points and humps on Rat-L-Traps and shallow-running crankbaits.”

Crappie: Good. “A lot of crappie are being caught by long-line trolling in the coves of the lower lake around Bay Springs,” Mark said. “The bays and creeks in the upper Coosa River are producing a lot of crappie also. Look for suspended fish 4 to 8 feet deep. Use 1/16- and 1/24-oz. Jiffy Jigs in colors JJ09, JJ13, JJ17, JJ15 and JJ33. A few crappie are starting to be caught shooting docks with jigs. Some crappie are showing up on brush in 4 to 8 feet of water, and they are being caught on minnows and jigs.”

Catfish: Good. They’re on the flats 6 to 12 feet deep, and they’re hitting cut shad, according to Mark.
