Lake Weiss Fishing Report April 2011

GON Staff | March 30, 2011

Weiss: Level: Full pool. Temp: 59-65 degrees. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Excellent. Guide Warren Barnes reports, “Bass fishing on Lake Weiss has been great over the past couple of weeks and should only get better as the temps continue to rise. Both largemouths and spots are in the prespawn and spawn stages. I have been catching some quality largemouths up the river in the dirty water using Jackall Bling crankbaits on shallow points and ditches, and also flipping Georgia Tackle jigs and soft creature baits in the wood and docks. Down the lake, I have been been catching some giant spots on Jackall Bling, Tn70 and Squirrel jerkbaits fished on points and shallow ledges with hard bottoms. On slower days I will use a shaky head or Jackall Flickshake rig. The spotted bass are schooled up in large packs right now, and if you get into the right school, you could see one of those big 5-lb. spots the Coosa is known for.”

Crappie: Good. Guide Mark Collins said the crappie have started biting. “The crappie are staged in the mouths of the spawning bays, and they are being caught longline trolling with Jiffy Jigs in colors JJ13, JJ17 and JJ24. Little River, Little Spring Creek and the bays around Bay Springs are producing best.”

Catfish: Mark said catfish are biting good on the flats and coves in 10 to 20 feet of water on cut shad.
