Lake Sinclair Fishing Report – March 2022
GON Staff | February 24, 2022
Sinclair: Level: 1.5 feet below 340. Temp: 51-55 degrees. Clarity: Most of the lake is muddy to stained until you get below Rocky Creek..
Bass: Tournament angler Karl Pingry reports, “Ed at Lakeside Chevron is bragging that every tournament is taking 18 to more than 20 pounds to win fishing the stained to muddy water of Sinclair. It’s only going to get better! The best areas are up Little River, the back of Rooty Creek and up the Oconee River. Go-to crankbaits right now are a Little Earl in pearl and chartreuse and a Bandit 200 in similar colors. Fish turtleback spinnerbaits in chartreuse and white. Also fish a Rat-L-Trap or a Red Eye Shad shallow where the lake bottom drops 2 to 4 feet. Fish a chartreuse-and-white ChatterBait with a swim-body trailer parallel to the grass, as well as a junebug-red monster worm with a 1/16-oz. weight Texas rigged on the edge of the grass or fished slowly around the docks. An alternative bait on the docks is a Super Speed Craw and a shaky-head worm. There will be a jerkbait bite on the lower end if the water visibility gets better than 1 foot. The key to tournament success is to fish the stained to muddy water and don’t be afraid to throw it shallow. Keep these patterns in mind all of March. By the full moon, maybe you can look for bedding fish in the shallow, clearer water or look for changes in color on the bottom or holes in the grass. A Carolina-rigged lizard used to be a good choice on hard bottom, main-lake points, secondary points and near the backs of pockets. If it has grass, a longer leader of 3 or more feet maybe necessary along with lighter weights (1/2- to 1/8-oz.). If you are fishing dirty water during the spawn, it is hard to beat a black or merthiolate Trick Worm with a small paneling nail inserted in the head or the old reliable Senko.
