Lake Seminole Fishing Reports – April 2021

GON Staff | April 1, 2021

Seminole: Level: 0.5 feet above full pool. Temp: Upper 60s. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Paul Tyre, of Lake Seminole Fishing Adventures, reports, “The bass fishing on Lake Seminole has been excellent this March. Stick worms like a Yum Dinger have produced some big bass. Spinnerbaits and lipless crankbaits have been very productive. If planning a trip to Lake Seminole in April, there are three baits you will need to have tied on. A hollow belly frog is one, and one of my favorites is a Spro Popping Frog. Fish it around and over the top of vegetation. I like using a TFO 7-3 heavy-action rod with a high-speed reel filled with at least 50-lb. Cortland Master Braid to get the big bass out of the heavy cover. A swim jig is a very productive lure in April on Seminole. My choice is the Untamed Tackle Heavy Cover swim jig. It is made with a quad bait keeper that holds the trailer on and will come through the cover with ease. Try to imitate bluegill with your color of jig and trailer. A soft plastic straight-tail worm will continue to be very productive bait in April. My favorite is a Yum Dinger Texas-rigged and fished around the grasslines.”

Guide Chris Taylor, of Fish Lake Seminole guide service, reports, “An unusual cold front in late February has pushed the bass spawn back a little later than usual this year. We are seeing bass on beds all over the lake, with Fish Pond Drain being in the latest stages. I expect to see another wave of spawning with the late March full moon, and you should still find fry guards around the first week in April. Target shallow flats with sand bars—look for bright spots. Search for the hot spots on the sandbars with a speed worm, and once you get bit stay there and pick the area apart. Tons of opportunity to sight fish in the clearer water, as well. As the spawn ends around mid April, we will start to see a shad spawn. Target outside grasslines for shad spawn areas, and check them with a spinnerbait. Make sure to watch your bait back to the boat to make sure shad are hugging your spinnerbait. If you do not have shad hugging your spinnerbait, you need to make a blade or color adjustment. We will start to see a strong topwater bite begin and last until late July. Throw prop baits and poppers early in the morning along grasslines. Seminole is cranking out the fish, come on down!” Guide Aaron Crews reports, “Bass are pre, post and spawning. The new moon will be April 10, and the full moon will be April 27. Probably more fish bed on the new moon. Prespawners can be taken on Speed Worms, spoons, white spinnerbaits and Carolina-rigged lizards. Catch spawning fish on tubes, Texas-rigged lizards, jigs and an A.C. Shiner. Catch postspawners on buzzbaits, a Splash-It, Devil’s Horse, A.C. Shiner with a prop, Zoom Fluke, Senko, ChatterBait and a Bagley DKB flat crankbait.”

Bream: “Lake Seminole is nationally known for its excellent shellcracker fishing, and they will be bedding in and around the flats,” said guide Paul Tyre.

Misc: Guide Aaron Crews reports, “The shellcracker, bluegill and redbreasts will start bedding next mouth. Worms and crickets will be the live baits of choice. Fly rod fishermen should start getting ready. Chartreuse, white and orange poppers are my choices. Crappie have spawned for the first time already. They can be taken on the grasslines with minnows or Beetle Spins. Catfish will be caught in 10 to 15 feet of water on chicken gizzards, worms, cut bait and minnows.”
