Lake Jackson Fishing Report – October 2024

GON Staff | September 25, 2024

Jackson: Level: 0.3 feet above 528. Temp: Low 70s. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Willie McMullen reports that this October will be a different month from normal Octobers. A drawdown will begin on Oct. 6, and Jackson will be pulled down 5 feet. Use caution as the lake goes down. Many areas have changed and silted in over the years. Fishing should be better than normal in October since the drawdown will limit available cover. Fish channel swings and deeper areas. Find baitfish, and bass will be nearby. Covering the water with a topwater or with a crankbait will be best. Once you find a school of fish with those baits, slow down and fish a shaky head or a jig. Current should help group fish up. Best colors for cranking are blue/chartreuse and shad colors. On slow-moving baits, go with green pumpkin/brown and mix in a highlight color like chartreuse or orange.
