Lake Hartwell Fishing Report – September 2023

GON Staff | August 30, 2023

Hartwell: Level: 3.3 feet below 660. Temp: Upper 80s. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Justin Kimmel reports that the August heat has made things more difficult for anglers, but the bass continue to bite. For the offshore bite, staying close to the river channel on deeper points will help you be more consistent. To catch the herring eaters, a fluke, Chug Bug and the new 100 Swimbaits Glitch Hard Fluke Bait have been consistent. Work them over cane and brushpiles. Fish the Chug Bug very aggressively to pull in the bass. The bank bite isn’t easy, but there are plenty of good largemouth to be caught in the rivers. The Clutch Darter is catching 4-lb. largemouth around docks and trees on main creek banks and up the rivers. Many of those bass are bluegill eaters, so they will also hit a black buzzbait, a green-pumpkin jig and a shaky head with a green-pumpkin Trick Worm.
