Lake Hartwell Fishing Report – March 2024

GON Staff | February 28, 2024

Hartwell: Level: 0.4 above 660. Temp: Low 50s. Clarity: Clear on the main lake but stained in the creeks.

Bass: Water temps are below what they were this time last year. However, with the longer days, start to look for bass staging at the mouths of pockets and creeks as the wait for warmer water to make their push toward the shallows to spawn. Channel docks and flats in creeks will hold fish this time of year. Crankbaits and jerkbaits in red work well this time of year as these fish stage up. Since March water can still be cold, don’t overlook rocks in these areas in 5 to 15 feet of water. Crankbait fishing in these areas can be fantastic at times. There will still be a ditch bite in 20 to 50 feet of water. Focus on those ditches that lead back into spawning coves, and fish football jigs and spoons.
