Lake Eufaula Fishing Report May 2015

GON Staff | April 30, 2015

Eufaula: Level: Full pool. Temp: 72-75 degrees. Clarity: Clearing on the main lake, stained in the creeks.

Bass:
Excellent. Tournament angler Les Bratcher reports, “The bite on Lake Eufaula has been on fire while the spawn was in full force. It has been taking well over 20 pounds to have a chance to win the tournaments. Bass are in all stages of the spawn, and anglers are catching bass in a lot of ways. Some anglers are sight fishing, some are fishing the shallow grass and pads, while others are having success offshore. Most anglers are using a variety of baits to catch good bags. Plastics and swimbaits are doing good shallow, while the deep guys are using plastics and jigs. The new Big Bite 5-inch Fighting Frog has been getting a lot of attention on the tournament stages here lately. Things are only going to stay good with the shad spawn beginning to start. Anglers better get out their frogs and swim jigs, and go have fun.” Guide Sam Williams reports, “Bass are in the cover. Bladed baits, jigs and soft plastics are getting some good bass to bite. Spinnerbaits and frogs are really great and getting some nice fish. Shallow-running crankbaits, ChatterBaits and lipless cranks are also good as the sun gets up. There are some great sacks coming in now, and it will get better in the weeks to come.”

Bream:
Sam reports, “Bluegill and shellcrackers are starting to get right. Crickets are the trick right now around cover on the banks and around the old pad fields in shallow water. Worms on the bottom will be great for shellcrackers in the next week or so. We have some big ones showing up here in the past year or so.”
