Lake Eufaula Fishing Report January 2014

GON Staff | December 30, 2013

Eufaula: Level: 2.2 feet above full pool. Temp: Low 50s. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Guide Sam Williams reports, “Winter weather has set in. Cold, windy days make fishing a little tougher for sure. For the serious angler, the bass are still biting, it just takes some work. Fish are holding near rocky structure where the water stays warmer. Find any grass or hydrilla in these areas, and you will get a bite. Topwater early is working—flukes, frogs and buzzbaits are a good choice. Lipless crankbaits work as the morning moves on. Finish up with a jig or a Texas-rigged worm. Be sure and take some of the mid-sized fish home to eat. We need to harvest this size bass to help improve the size of the fish in our fishery.”

Crappie: “They are biting well now that the weather has cooled down,” Sam said. “Trolling has become popular again. Work the creek or river drops. Night fishing around the bridges or causeways is in full force now.”
