Lake Chatuge Fishing Report – May 2021

GON Staff | April 29, 2021

Chatuge: Level: 2.5 feet below full pool. Temp: 63-65 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Eric Welch reports: “We’ve had so much rain the past month that our lakes actually went above full pool in just a matter of a few days, along with water temps dropping. Everything is starting to get back to normal. There are still some fish spawning, and there are some that will be spawning around the first and second week in May. After that, you should start seeing some topwater action. My baits of choice are a Whopper Plooper, Berkley Cane Walker and a Strike King Sexy Dawg Jr. Before that bite starts, you are going to be able to catch the bass protecting the fry around brush and docks by throwing a Zoom Trick Worm and a Zoom Fluke. By the middle of the month, the bass should be going back to their summer patterns, where you can catch them on shaky heads, drop shots, jigs and Texas rigs. Good luck.”
