Lake Chatuge Fishing Report – March 2022

GON Staff | February 24, 2022

Chatuge: Level: 6.8 feet below 1925. Temp: 49-50 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Eric Welch reports: “Fishing is picking up. We’ve been having some warm days and cold nights, but these bright, sunny days have been making fish active. The lake is still at winter pool, and the fish have been scattered, but the ones we’ve been catching are quality fish. It’s time to start throwing those square-billed crankbaits, Strike King 1.0, 1.5, and also a Red Eye Shad rattle trap. I’m using these lures targeting laydowns on sunny banks, along with rocky banklines, and then I will move into shallow, spawning flats. These areas will warm up faster, and the flats is where they are going to spawn in a couple of months. I’m still catching fish deep in ditches, roadbeds and drops while drop shotting a 4.5-inch Roboworm, Ned rig and a green-pumpkin jig. We should start seeing the fish get more active and start catching them on jerkbaits. This month is a great time to throw the A-rig around sunny docks, brush and in spawning pockets and flats. Good luck.”
