Lake Chatuge Fishing Report – March 2020

GON Staff | February 27, 2020

Chatuge: Level: 1.2 feet low. Temp: 50-52 degrees. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Guide Eric Welch reports, “The lake is almost at summer pool and is stained, but the bite has been picking up. We’ve been catching fish on main-lake points and rocky banks on a drop shot with a 4.5-inch red crawler Roboworm and a Z-Man Ned rig with a green-pumpkin Finesse TRD worm. Now that some of the shoreline brush is in the water, try a 3/8-oz. green-pumpkn jig or a spinnerbait and a 3/16-oz shaky head with a 6.5-inch Strike King Finesse Worm in green pumpkin. As the water continues to warm up, fish are going to move up and start cruising. This is a good time to throw a 3.5- or 4.5-inch swimbait. Also try throwing a Strike King 1.5 squarebill in red or chartreuse/black. If you find any fish bunched up, try a 1/2-oz. white or chrome spoon. A Strike King KVD 200 series jerkbait in clearwater minnow is a good spring bait. On a sunny day, try an A-rig around docks, points and flats.”
