Lake Burton Fishing Report – October 2023

GON Staff | September 27, 2023

Burton: Level: 0.5 feet below 1865. Temp: 68 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Wes Carlton reports, “The bass bite has been consistent the last few days. We have had some great weather the last few weeks. Most of the spotted bass are midway back in the creeks feeding on herring. The topwater bite is getting better every day. We have caught fish on everything from Storm Chug Bugs to Sebile jointed baits (herring color). These fish like a fast retrieve, so keep the bait moving quickly. Look for this bite to get better as we head into mid October.”

Trout & Walleye: Guide Wes Carlton reports, “The brown trout bite has been a little slow lately. We have caught a few fish trolling nightcrawlers over the main lake channel. I have seen a few fish surfacing the last couple of days feeding on floating bugs. The trout bite should get better as the water temps dive over the next few weeks. Look for the brown trout to start making their way up in the creeks. White jerkbaits in and around brush will work well this time of year. The walleye bite should start warming up as we head into late October. Most of these fish are deep right now. Just remember walleye are most active during cooler-water months.”
