Lake Burton Fishing Report – May 2007

GON Staff | April 23, 2007

Burton: Level: .2 feet over full pool. Temp: mid 60 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Good. Daniel Workman said the spawn is pretty much over, and the bass are switching over to a postspawn pattern and moving back out onto brush. “There are still some bass running the banks, but mostly they are heading back to brush, grass and boat docks,” said Daniel. “People fishing swim baits around the brushpiles have been waylaying them.” Daniel recommended fishing a swim bait, floating worm or a Senko around cover. Grassbeds are key right now, he said. “The bass are holding around cover, especially grass, because that’s where the bait is,” he said. Green pumpkin is a good worm color, and watermelon red is one of the best on Burton, he said. You can rig a worm wacky style and let is float and flutter down, but Daniel sticks with the traditional rig because it comes through the grass better.
