Lake Burton Fishing Report – March 2025

GON Staff | February 26, 2025

Burton: Level: 3 feet below 1866.66. Temp: 43 degrees. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Guide Tyler Clore reports, “The bass bite has been slow the last couple of days. With the cold temps, the bass are still deep, 25-foot plus. When we have a couple days in a row that are warm, look for the fish to sit up higher in the water column or move into more shallow water. Damiki rigs and paddletails in a baitfish color or white are still producing the best size and numbers. Look in the creeks, especially those that have wind blowing into them.”

Brown Trout: Guide Wes Carlton reports, “The trout bite has been good the last few days. We have been catching some nice fish trolling a crawler harness with silver/gold blades. We have also caught a few fish on Captain Mack’s Mini Mack’s with pearl-white bodies. We didn’t originally plan on catching trout on these, but we were trolling for bigger spotted bass and the trout started eating them. Try trolling 1 mph with the trolling motor or wind using planer boards. We have been clipping the Mini’s about 45 feet behind the boards working the main lake channel. Be sure to use a reel with plenty of line so you can adjust the boards away from the boat.”

Walleye: Guide Tyler Clore reports, “The fish are getting ready to transition up the river to spawn. Try to target fish staging in the deep part of lake before entering the river. We have had the most success on a jig head.”
