Lake Burton Fishing Report – March 2007

GON Staff | February 27, 2007

Burton: Level: 5.6 feet below full pool. Temp: 50 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: March is traditionally a great month on Burton, according to Daniel Workman. “This time of year, you need a crankbait, a jigging spoon and a worm,” he said. “The bass will be following the bait, which will be ganged up in big pods about halfway back in the creeks. What I usually do is ease along with my trolling motor and cast a Bill Norman’s Deep Little N crankbait. I crank it fast, ripping it, and when I catch a fish, it is usually a good one. I keep an eye on my depthfinder, and if I locate a big pod of bait, I will drop either a spoon or a worm on a Spotsticker jig head. Green pumpkin Zoom Finesse worms work well, and the V&M six-inch Needle Worm is also a good one.” Daniel says he likes Johnson spoons, and he recommends trying a gold-colored spoon over silver. “Everyone is using silver, if you try a gold spoon you are giving them a little different look and it works well.”
