Lake Burton Fishing Report – January 2025

GON Staff | December 25, 2024

Burton: Level: 3.8 feet below 1866.66. Temp: 46 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Tyler Clore reports, “With the cooler temps setting in, the fish are transitioning to the creeks and ditches.  First thing in the morning, we have been catching fish on a Spro RkCrawer crankbait in a crawdad color. On cloudy days, we are finding fish chasing and schooling on the shallow bait. We are catching these fish on a jerkbait. I prefer a Megabass Oneten in a herring color. On sunny days, the bait wants to stay deeper. We are targeting these fish with a Fish Head Spin with a Keitech swimbait. Use a slow retrieve and keep your spin near the bottom. We are also targeting these fish with a Damaki rig bait. You can rig these with any small white fluke style bait.”

Brown Trout: Guide Tyler Clore reports, “The bite has been a little slow the last few days. Most of the fish we have caught have been midway back in the creeks near the bank lines. Look for rock banks that favor deep water. It seems like the bigger fish are a little deeper in these areas (16 to 20 feet). Try casting a crankbait in these locations. The Spro RkCrawer Craw 04 has been catching some nice fish. We have also had success slow trolling these crankbaits along these areas. The brown trout bite should continue to get better over the next few weeks. Remember these fish love cold water!”
