Lake Burton Fishing Report – August 2024

GON Staff | August 1, 2024

Burton: Level: 1.8 feet below 1866.66. Temp: 79 degrees. Clarity: Slight stain.

Bass: Guide Wes Carlton, with Georgia Lake Fishing guide service, reports, “The bass bite has been good the last few days. We have caught a lot of fish midway back in the creeks. They seem to be hanging around the grassbeds. Both largemouth and spotted bass are in these areas. The schools of herring seem to be hanging out at these areas, as well, and that’s what the fish are chasing. Look for a 16- to 25-foot bottom in these creek areas. Drop shotting seems to be the best technique right now. Anything pumpkinseed or morning-dawn in color has been working best. We have also seen a topwater bite close to these pre-mentioned areas. This pattern should continue for the next few weeks.”

Yellow Perch: Guide Wes Carlton, with Georgia Lake Fishing guide service, reports, “The perch bite has been phenomenal lately. We have caught these fish all over the lake in the backs of the creeks 16 to 20 feet deep. The best technique for them has been using crappie jigs in bright colors. We’ve also caught some bigger perch using nightcrawlers and red wigglers. Pay close attention to your electronics when looking for perch. I try to focus on the thicker grass when searching for them. Just remember if you catch one, there are lots more on the same location. Cloudy/rainy days seem to be the best bite. This spot should continue to get better as we head into late August.”
