Lake Burton Fishing Report – April 2024

GON Staff | March 27, 2024

Burton: Level: 2.5 feet below 1866.66. Temp: 57 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Wes Carlton, with Georgia Lake Fishing guide service, reports, “The spotted bass bite is unreal right now! These fish are really aggressive and will eat just about anything from a jerkbait to a plastic worm. Most of the spots we are catching have been in 5 to 12 feet of water. The spotted bass should be spawning over the next few weeks. Look for these fish to stay shallow. The largemouth bite has really picked up, also. We have been catching most of the largemouth on white jerkbaits. Fish these lures close to the banks around fallen trees or over rock outcroppings. We have caught a few 6-plus-pound fish lately.”

Walleye: Guide Wes Carlton, with Georgia Lake Fishing guide service, reports, “The walleye spawn is almost over. Most of the population is still up the creeks and river channels. Trying to catch postspawning walleye can be tricky since they can be picky about eating sometimes. Be patient. These fish seem to be biting a Shad Rap in American shad trolled or cast around the rocks. Work this bait very slow since walleye are not aggressive like other species of fish. We have caught a few bigger fish on a white jerkbait. The next few weeks should be the best of the year for catching walleye in Georgia.”

Brown Trout: Guide Wes Carlton, with Georgia Lake Fishing guide service, reports, “Most of the brown trout population is still hanging around in the creek channels. We have been trolling nightcrawlers 1 mph on freelines the last couple of days and producing some really nice fish. Try targeting the 12- to 25-foot depths. These fish should hold this pattern for the next few weeks if the water temperatures don’t rise rapidly.”
