Lake Blue Ridge Fishing Report January 2013

GON Staff | January 3, 2013

Blue Ridge: Level: 15 feet below full pool. Temp: 48-52 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Eric Crowley reports, “The lake is cold, but the fishing has been getting hotter every day. Look for a great smallie bite in the mornings on the main lake. Open-water fishing will produce smallies daily. Look for busting fish out in open water. You can throw topwater baits like a Smack Tackle Smack Jack, a Zara Spook or even a fluke. If the fish go down, then switch and throw something a little deeper like a Smack Tackle Flitter Bait or weighted fluke in shad color. If you can’t find fish on your sonar, just look for bait in open water, and start fan casting around it.”
