Lake Blackshear Fishing Report May 2014

GON Staff | April 30, 2014

Blackshear: Level: Full pool. Temp: 70 degrees. Clarity: Slight stain.

Crappie: Very good. Rusty Parker reports, “This has been one weird month for me. Conditions that I thought were bad for crappie fishing have turned out great. There are still a few crappie spawning, but overall the spawn is on the downside. I have been having great luck dock shooting with R.A.G. Fly jigs using mainly the 1/24-oz. jigs. I went early in the morning April 24 and saw there were two gates wide open and three generators running full blast. I just knew we wouldn’t do too good, but I was pleasantly surprised because we were able to keep 36 crappie and probably threw back 15 or more. The colors they were biting most were chartreuse/pink/chartreuse, black/watermelon green/chartreuse and the chartreuse/pearl white/chartreuse.”

Bream: “The shellcracker have already began to bed, and the bluegills shouldn’t be far behind,” Rusty said. “The catfish are biting great, also.”
