Lake Blackshear Fishing Report June 2015

GON Staff | May 28, 2015

Blackshear: Level: Full pool. Temp: 84 degrees. Clarity: Main lake clear, river lightly stained.

Crappie: Rusty Parker reports, “The crappie bite has slowed a good bit, but the bream have began bedding, and the bluegills seem to be very large for Lake Blackshear. I have been lucky enough to find five different bluegill beds, and they have been huge. The upper end of the lake is stained a lot, so you should start looking for the bream beds from Hwy 280 bridge and to the south of it. Just a few weeks ago a friend and I went shooting docks for crappie and did great. We found a dock in the Swift Creek area that produced over 60 nice crappie over a two-day period. The color that we had the best luck with was the chartreuse/pink/chartreuse and the white/pearl/white in the 1/24-oz size. No matter what depth you were fishing, just make sure you use the 1/24 oz. and an ultra-slow retrieval. The surface temp is now anywhere between 80 and to 84 degrees. Look for those large shaded docks and Smoak Bridge is also producing some good slabs.”
