Lake Blackshear Fishing Report July 2013

GON Staff | June 26, 2013

Blackshear: Level: Full pool. Temp: 83-86 degrees. Clarity: Light stain.

Crappie: Good. Guide Rusty Parker reports, “The weather as you know has been killer hot. I have been able to find a few nice slab crappie by shooting docks. On June 18, I was able to catch 17 decent crappie with a bubblegum R.A.G. Fly jig and the black head/pearl body/chartreuse tail. What surprised me is that the docks I fished were 6 feet and 10 feet deep. Crappie do seem to be hanging tight to structure, and the larger docks are the ones holding numbers of crappie.”

Bream: Very good. “The bream have been biting really great lately,” Rusty said. “Have been very fortunate to find five different bluegill beds, and the bluegills have been really big for Lake Blackshear. Even was lucky enough to find bluegill and shellcracker bedding in same spot. Crickets are working great on bluegills and worms for the shellcrackers.”

Catfish: “I have gotten several reports that the catfish are also biting great. Get you some jumper worms, and a few have been caught using bits of hotdogs,” Rusty said.
