Lake Blackshear Fishing Report January 2017

GON Staff | December 22, 2016

Blackshear: Level: 1.7 feet low. Temp: 52-55 degrees. Clarity: Perfect for fishing.

Crappie: Rusty Parker reports, “This is some crazy weather we have been getting lately here on Lake Blackshear. When is the last time you have seen 80 degrees in the middle of December on Lake Blackshear and then just less than a week later, it’s freezing weather? I was fortunate enough to have a great friend of mine carry me fishing Dec. 21, and I really didn’t think we would catch many, but I was fooled once again because we ended up with 15 nice crappie. There weren’t any huge slabs, but they were so aggressive that they all felt like a big ol’ 3-lb. slabs. We were able to catch a few by casting Sore Lip Jigs over deep-water structure, and the colors we were using were chartreuse/pink/chartreuse and black/watermelon/chartreuse, both 1/24-oz. in size. All the others we caught by tightlining minnows down deep in structure. The structure we were fishing was in 31 feet of water, and we were fishing about 2 to 4 feet off the bottom.”
