Lake Blackshear Fishing Report January 2015

GON Staff | December 23, 2014

Blackshear: Level: 2.7 feet low. Temp: 50-53 degrees.

Crappie: Rusty Parker reports, “The Crisp County Power Commission started raising Blackshear to its normal level back on the Dec. 15, and so far it’s kind of slow. Rain is coming the next few days and should have it full soon. The crappie have been biting fairly good lately. I have been having great luck when fishing the channel ledges where the average depth is around 20 to 28 feet deep. For the past few days, it seems like most of the crappie have been suspended at about 15 to 18 feet. I have caught most of my crappie tightlining minnows, and a few are being caught using R.A.G. Fly jigs with the chartreuse/pink/chartreuse and the chartreuse/watermelon/chartreuse/black. The Hwy 280 bridge has produced a lot of crappie lately, as has the channel up close to the Campers Haven area. Several limits have been caught in these areas. We are expecting to get a lot of rain in the next few days, so that may slow it down a bit but not much. I pray that all of you had a great Christmas and the New Year will bring you a lot of happiness. God bless you all.”
