Lake Blackshear Fishing Report – January 2007

GON Staff | January 2, 2007

Blackshear: Level: 3.2 feet below full pool. Temp: Lower 60 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass:
The Crisp County Power Co. began refilling the lake on December 18 after a drawdown to allow for dock repair. The timeframe to bring the lake up depends on rainfall, but the backing water which will help scatter the baitfish is likely to slow the fishing. Crankbaits like a Shad Rap or Bandit 100 series around cypress trees, blowdowns or boat docks, or spinnerbaits or flukes in the same structure are all good bets. A Carolina-rigged worm in redbug or green pumpkin in the same areas should also catch a few bass.

Crappie:
Good. Rusty Parker was on the lake in mid December and caught 22 crappie, but he had to do a little hunting for them. “We tried the Hwy 280 bridge, and the railroad trestle near the state park and didn’t see anything,” said Rusty. They moved to a deep ledge, and they found fish holding in stumps and brush 30 feet deep.
