Lake Blackshear Fishing Report April 2013

GON Staff | March 27, 2013

Blackshear: Level: Full pool. Temp: Low 60s. Clarity: Stained.

Crappie:
Rusty Parker reports, “The crappie have been off and on for the past few weeks. The weather has been so unpredictable that the crappie are confused what to do. My partner and I went on March 22 and did really great. We caught almost a double limit pitching R.A.G. Fly jigs. We were using chartreuse head/pink body/chartreuse tail and pitched the bridge pilings under Smoak Bridge. It was really cold all day, but we were still able to catch a great mess of slab crappie. They have just began to move in the trees. I talked to one man who caught his limit March 20 fishing no more than 18 inches deep around the trees. In my opinion, the spawn is on in Lake Blackshear, so hit it when you can. The trees in Cedar Creek are good. Smoak Bridge in Swift Creek is great, and on east side of Smoak Bridge is great for long-line trolling now. Bubblegum and all chartreuse R.A.G. Fly jigs are getting great results now.”
