Lake Blackshear Fishing Report April 2012

GON Staff | March 28, 2012

Blackshear: Level: Full pool. Temp: 73 degrees. Clarity: Light stain; about 2 feet visibility.

Crappie: Excellent. Rusty Parker said the crappie are biting like crazy, and you can catch them any way you want to right now. He said if you want to catch them on a cork and minnow or with a jig pitched shallow, there are some spawners on the cypress trees. If you prefer shooting docks, there are some fish staged there. If you prefer longline trolling, cruise through your creek-channel trees. And if you want to tightline, there are fish on the 18- to 20-foot ledges, also. Rusty said everything should be up shallow spawning in the next couple of weeks, but for the time being, he is killing them shooting docks with his Rag Fly jigs. He said anything with chartreuse in it will work, but chartruese/pearl-white/chartreuse and red/chartreuse/yellow worked the best for him. Along with the docks, Rusty has been doing well shooting the pilings at the Railroad Trestle and Smoke Bridge. He’s caught several fish approaching 2 pounds.
