Lake Allatoona Fishing Report October 2016
GON Staff | September 28, 2016
Allatoona: Level: 2.3 feet low. Temp: 81 degrees. Clarity: Clear.
Bass: Tournament angler Matt Driver reports, “Fishing in the month of October is really good as we start to see bass feeding up for the winter. We start to see a good bit of surface activity and schooling. This month the creeks and deeper pockets become productive. Even though the fall has been warm thus far, everything appears to be a normal fall pattern. This month you can catch fish on your favorite method. October is a great month for swimbait fishing. October is a great month for throwing the Triple Trout and the Spro BBZ. Make sure you use a proper rod, reel and line. I use a Cashion 7-6 heavy rod, 25-lb. Sunline supernatural line and a 7:0 Lew’s baitcaster. Paralleling bluff walls is a great technique to use with a swimbait. The soft plastic jerkbait is good. A white or pink 5-inch Big Bite Jerk Minnow fished with a fast, erratic retrieve is working good. The upper lake from Galts to Little River has been the best area. This area should stay good until the water drops a few more feet.”
Linesides: Guide Robert Eidson reports, “The striper and hybrid bite has slowed down some in the last two weeks, but it’s still decent for October. The fish are on the move and can be anywhere from the dam to the S-turns. The live-bait bite is decent, but our better bite has been on the umbrella rigs. We are targeting long flats, humps and brushpiles between 18 and 34 feet deep. The white bass fishing is good. Whites are starting to school up and are starting to bust topwater early morning and again in the late afternoon. The flats across from the mouth of Kelloggs and out in front of Galts are loaded on most days. Popping corks, tiny flukes and spoons are the ticket right now. The key to catching numbers is spooling light and making very long casts. When the fish go down, try bouncing a 1/2-oz. spoon off the bottom.”
