Lake Allatoona Fishing Report – March 2023

GON Staff | March 1, 2023

Allatoona: Level: 7.5 feet below 840. Temp: 55 degrees. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Tournament angler Matt Driver reports, “Fishing has been completely on fire! The month of February was unbelievable, and the month of March will only be better. It has been taking 14 to 17 pounds to win tournaments lately, with most of the field coming in with better than 9 pounds. It’s time to turn and burn crankbaits. All sorts and sizes have been working and will continue working for the rest of the month. Shad Raps, squarebills and mid-depth cranks, like the Little John, are working great. The bass are shallow. The ChatterBait has also been on fire. The month of March is when we will see most bass move up into the first stages of the spawn, and toward the end of the month, we will see them make it to the spawning grounds. This month is by far the best month to catch a trophy fish. If fast-paced fishing is not for you, try the Ned rig on secondary points leading to the spawning pockets. The water temperature has been very spring like ever since February. This is definitely not the norm for Allatoona. Get out, take a kid fishing and have fun.”

Linesides: Guide Robert Eidson, of First Bite Guide Service, reports, “Linesides are good! We have been doing well on both the north and south ends of the lake this week. It’s been a mix bag of hybrids, stripers and white bass, but we will take it, especially in late February. The better bite has been on small gizzards and threadfins fished on freelines and planer boards on both ends of the lake. Both ends are holding decent numbers. The south end of the lake seems to be better for hybrids, while the north end of the lake seems to be fishing better for stripers and white bass. I look for most of the fish to migrate north in the next few days and start staging for their annual spawn run.”
