Georgia Saltwater Fishing Report – October 2009

GON Staff | September 29, 2009

Saltwater: Inshore: Capt. Bob Barnette reports, “As fall arrives, sea trout and spot-tail bass action will increase both in numbers and for size. For trout, look for clear water and schools of small glass minnows and mullet on the top around creek mouths. Once you locate these baitfish, it should not be long before the trout show up. Start off with a popping cork, and fish it shallow with live shrimp or a Gulp artificial bait. As the water cools later in the month, you will need to fish a little deeper. At this time there are plenty of shrimp in the shallow creeks you can catch in a cast net, but in most cases I would suggest that you spend the small charge and buy them from a bait house. Most have plenty on hand. I might also recommend mud minnows later in October. Redfish are also very abundant at this time. A recent report I had was you can catch a limit in short order in McQueens and out spots near the ocean. If you are new at this fishery or don’t have a boat, contact a guide who can improve your chances.”
