Georgia Saltwater Fishing Report – January 2010

GON Staff | January 4, 2010

Saltwater: Inshore: Capt. Bob Barnette reports, “December is all but a memory, and January is here. The water temps will be in the mid to low 50s. You should start looking for the larger speckled trout in the deeper water. The live bait of choice will be mud minnows. You can also use plastic swimbaits. I like the clear with glitter. You will need to try different colors and methods of fishing them. I like to fish the plastic slow and close to the bottom or trolled behind the boat. Redfish have started to group up in the Intracoastal Waterway, and also in the backs of the shallow creeks, where the sun warms the water. These fish can also be caught on the minnows and plastics, but you will have to be extra stealthy getting close to them in the shallows. On days when you can make the beach front, the big stag redfish can still be caught.”
