Georgia Saltwater Fishing Report December 2009

GON Staff | November 25, 2009

Saltwater: Inshore: Capt. Robert Barnett reports, “With cool winter months arriving, please do no think the saltwater fishing action is over. There have been good catches of sea trout in both Wassaw and Ossabaw sounds in the last weeks. The redfish are starting to school, and I mean some large schools. Look to the shallow pools along the marsh banks of the intercoastal to produce a lot of good fish. With the water temp dropping into the low 60s and the water should be clearing, try a DOA Shrimp — I like the red — below a large popping cork. You will catch both reds and sea trout using this combination. As the water gets colder, move into the deeper water. As always, live bait is good. Both Kilkenny and Fort McAllister marinas have plenty.” Capt. Greg Hildreth reports, “The inshore fishing for trout and reds has been very good for the past few weeks and is only going to get better. I’ve been getting most of my fish on live shrimp under popping corks, but I’ve also been doing very well with the new Gulp Rattle Shrimp in the new-penny color. Most of the fish I’ve been getting have been in the sound areas, but as the cooler water comes the trout should move into the creeks. The bull reds have been doing good on the shoals and bars nearshore but will be moving to the reefs offshore as soon as the water get to the 60-degree mark.”
