Carters Lake Fishing Reports – July 2021

GON Staff | July 1, 2021

Carters: Level: Full. Temp: 82 degrees. Clarity: 3 feet.

Linesides: Guide Eric Crowley reports, “The striper bite was tough last month with a few fish here and there but no wide-open bite for the most part. The good news is we are seeing bigger summer schools of fish already, and that means action. The best bite is still early morning until about 9 a.m. Live baits caught fresh are going to be the best option. After the early morning bite slows, we are pulling Captain Mack’s u-rigs in the creek mouths and over shallow timber edges for hybrids. The night bite over the Hydro Glow lights has been getting better as the water temps reach the 80s. There’s so much bait it really doesn’t matter where you put the lights in the water because the bait will show up.”

Walleye: Guide Eric Crowley reports, “The walleye bite has increased daily since the full moon. They are up shallow early in the morning and move offshore just after first light to 45 to 55 feet of water. Spoons, live minnows, shad or small alewives will all work at times. These fish are picky. The area around the shoal markers on the lower end of the lake has been holding fish. The early morning walleye bite over the Hydro Glow lights has been getting better as the water warms up. As usual, there’s tons of baitfish around. The night/evening bite throwing crankbaits or even shallow jerkbaits has been good in areas with lots of structure and baitfish.”
