Carters Lake Fishing Report February 2017

GON Staff | February 1, 2017

Carters: Level: 3.9 feet below full pool. Temp: 50 degrees. Clarity: Good visibility; 6 to 8 feet.

Spotted Bass: Guide Louie Bartenfield reports, “The bass fishing has been decent. The majority of our bass are being caught very deep. The bite out there is slow and takes patience, but quality this winter has been good. I’m primarily using three baits right now—a SpotSticker jig head and Big Bite Shaking Squirrel in green pumpkin, a drop shot with a minnow/shad imitation, and an underspin. I’m focusing on areas with baitfish congregated in water less than 50 feet deep. The bait has been staying around sometimes for hours, so just fish your way around the bait schools with the underspin, and keep your eye on your Humminbird down-imaging, looking for what zone the fish are in. Most of my fish on the underspin and drop shot have been suspended. When they’re closer to the bottom, I drag the SpotSticker.”
