A Red Rooster Custom Baits Small Fry in bluegrass color is what the Allatoona crappie liked on Monday, May 15.

Robert DeHaas, lure-maker and an OG from “Team Geezer” reports, “I fished Monday evening, May 15 in the upper lake above the S-turns. The water temp was 77 degrees and the water was clear. There are lots of floating logs on the lake.

“The crappie are hard on brush 14 to 20 feet deep. I caught fish casting to and vertical jigging on the structure (brushpiles and stumps) with a 1/16-oz. round ball jig with a No. 4 hook. A smaller hook was needed because I am fishing a small, 2-inch bait to match the size of the baitfish the crappie are currently eating. Due to time constraints, I didn’t try other colors. However, I had 15 fish before the thunderstorms rolled in. I was fishing a Red Rooster Custom Baits Small Fry in bluegrass color.

“The spotted bass topwater is on fire as the fish are busting shad all over the upper lake,” Robert added.
