Allatoona Crappie Fishing Report – June 21, 2023

Robert DeHaas is pouring a brand-new colored jig to match the current mayfly hatch.

Robert DeHaas, lure-maker with Red Rooster Custom Baits and an OG from “Team Geezer,” reports, “The water temp is 79 and clear. For some reason there are still some active crappie at the 8- to 10-foot range. Red Rooster team members (retired veterans) Jared and Jerrod, one guy from Cartersville, the other from Acworth, fished Friday evening, June 16 in Allatoona Creek. They had 20 real nice fish on a new color I poured to match the mayfly hatch (see image above). The bait is so new that we haven’t give it a name. It’s 1.5 inches, the perfect size for the tiny forage fish the crappie are feeding on. We are still casting to the structure and slow swimming the bait over the brush. If you have soft plastics that are 2 inches, you can cut them down and use a No. 4 jig head in 1/16- to 3/32-oz. weights to cast to them. The fish are still aggressive and will hit the bait hard. Our goal is to help others catch fish and pass it on to our youth! God bless.”
