Chatuge Bass Bites Off More Than It Can Chew

Something went bad wrong with these two Lake Chatuge bass. Kerry Browning, a media name many will recognize from 30 years at WSB and 10 years at Atlanta’s WXIA before retiring, sent us the picture. He found the dead bass floating next to his dock on Chatuge. Kerry said the bigger bass looked to be about 3 1/2 pounds, and the other wasn’t much smaller, probably around 3 pounds.

GON Subscriber Numbers Will Be Changing

GON has been in the thick of a major upgrade to our GON.com website. The look of the pages and articles will be greatly improved, as will the ability to navigate and find those precious gem articles from years ago.

A brand-new classifieds system will be launched that should greatly reduce the scammers and fraud attempts on GON’s classifieds. If you posted an ad on the current classifieds, it won’t transfer to the new system. If you haven’t already sold the item, you will need to re-post on the new classifieds.

Another change is new subscriber numbers for all GON members. Your new subscriber number will appear on the mailing label of your August issue.

If your subscription is already linked to your GON website account, you won’t have to do anything. The new system will automatically link your account to the new subscriber number.

If you are a subscriber and have not yet linked your subscription to the GON.com website, you are going to want to do that once the August issue arrives in your mailbox with your new subscriber number on the mailing label. If you can’t wait until the August issue, give us a call or email [email protected] to get your new subscriber number.

There are some great instruction videos at gon.com/gon-com-video-tutorials that can lead you through the easy process of creating an online GON.com account and then connecting your GON subscription with the website.

Three Yotes Come To Turkey Call

“One less turkey killer,” said GON subscriber Chad Folsom. “While turkey hunting with Jay Turner in Bremen, we had not one but three coyotes come in to my calling. Jay was able to get a shot off getting one of the sneaky yotes.”

Where’s GON: On The USS Gridley!

“I am DC1 Chase Hunter from Powder Springs. I am serving on USS Gridley (DDG 101) currently deployed to the 7th fleet area of operations. I love getting GON in care packages sent to me from home, and they are a huge hit within my division. Everyone passes them around and marvels at the trophy wildlife our state produces.”

Thank you Chase!

When you see the GON logo in an interesting location or take your magazine along, please get a picture and email it and the details to [email protected], or mail to GON, 4331 Seven Islands Road, Madison, GA 30650.

Corps Has New Hunting Permit System For Allatoona

After a suspension of fees and a permit requirement due to COVID, the hunting permits and fees have returned for hunters who want to try their luck on Lake Allatoona corps properties.

Archery-only deer hunting and turkey hunting will be allowed again on certain tracts of Allatoona corps land for 2022-2023, but only for permit-holders.

The Lake Allatoona corps office also announced a new online hunting permit system. The online special-use hunting permits for Allatoona are now available at www.recreation.gov/permits/5161616. The permit fee is $20, with 400 hunting permits to be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Permit applicants must provide name, mailing address, telephone number, email and state hunting license number. Each Recreation.gov account holder may purchase up to one permit to include their name, phone number, email and state hunting license number.

The Allatoona permits must now be purchased online. The permit will be valid from Sept. 1, 2022 to May 31, 2023.

There are 10 tracts of corps land around Lake Allatoona where hunting is allowed. Hunting area maps and a copy of current hunting regulations may be viewed or downloaded at www.sam.usace.army.mil/Missions/CivilWorks/Recreation/AllatoonaLake/Hunting.aspx.
