Lake Jackson Fishing Reports – May 2023

Jackson: Level: 0.6 above 528. Temp: Low 70s. Clarity: Light stain from Berry’s downstream. The rest of the lake is clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Willie McMullen said, “May is inconsistent with a good day followed by a bad one. Fish are mostly postspawn and moving deeper. Cooler nights have prolonged the shad spawn so continue to target seawalls early with topwater and white spinnerbaits. Some bass will still be bedding, so keep your eyes open for them, as well as bream beds, especially during the week of the full moon around May 5. Poppers, prop baits and wacky-rigged worms worked around bream beds should draw strikes. After the full moon, look for brush in 8 to 12 feet of water. Balls of baitfish in the area make them better. Fish a jig, Texas-rigged worm or shaky head in them. As the sun gets up, find shady banks and fish them with a buzzbait. Also, fish your jig around docks, starting at the walkway and working to the deepest post to find where the bass are holding. It is usually somewhat consistent from dock to dock.”
