Lake Jackson Fishing Report – April 2022

Brad Gill | March 24, 2022

Jackson: Level: 1.3 feet above 528. Temp: 58-60 degrees. Clarity: Heavily stained.

Bass: Tournament angler Karl Pingry reports, “It took 15-plus pounds to win Berry’s tourney on Sunday, but the guys are tight lipped on what it took to catch them. This is the month to be on Jackson. There will be bass spawning all month and especially on the April full moon. Here’s what you’ll need when you come to the lake. Fish a spinnerbait with Colorado blades in the stained water and willowleaf blades if the water clears or the shad spawn starts. Make sure you have a wacky-rigged Senko on at all times. Fish it along the banks and around the docks, blowdowns, stumps, rock, clay and sandy banks. A Trick Worm is another option. A shaky-head worm and a small creature bait are also a must. If you want a big bite, make sure your shaky-head worm is big. Last, don’t forget topwater. A buzzbait fished slowly, a Pop-R, Sammy 100 or Zara Spook are good choices. There are some big largemouth in Jackson and this is the month to catch one. A large swimbait is a local secret. Even if a big female just follows the bait out and does not bite, come back 30 minutes later and fish your creature bait, lizard or Senko on the same cast as earlier and see if you can trigger a strike. That female might be on a nest. Sometime in April, look for the shad spawn to start. In the first hour of the morning, fish a spinnerbait, ChatterBait or shallow crankbait where you find the shad. Look on the seawalls, dock floats and pilings, rocky banks, and rip-rap. Enjoy some of the best fishing and one of the best months for a big largemouth on Jackson.”
