Lake Jackson Fishing Report – February 2022

GON Staff | January 28, 2022

Jackson: Level: 0.5 feet above 528. Temp: Upper 40s to low 50s. Clarity: The lake is back to normal winter levels with stained water all the way to the dam and muddy up the rivers.

Bass: Tournament angler Karl Pingry reports, “Before the cold front just before GON went to press, fishing was fair. The moving-bait bite was all but nonexistent, but the dock bite with a shaky head or plastic worm was getting a lot of bites from small bass under the 12-inch limit. The club tournaments both Saturday and Sunday took only 10 pounds to win. The only other consistent pattern was a Carolina rig fished on the main-lake points going into pockets. Expect the bite to remain slow to fair for the first half of February based on the extended weather forecast. Expect the lake temperature to drop into the mid to low 40s. When the lake temps finally start to rise, look for the bigger largemouth to move up. Focus on anything that will absorb the sun and warm during the day—rocks, sand and wood. Never pass up a boat ramp! Use jerkbaits, shallow to medium-diving crankbaits (crawfish and shad colors), spinnerbaits, and ChatterBaits. Jigs in black and blue and crawfish colors, as well as a shaky-head worm around the docks, will always be a go-to on Jackson. If a cold front comes through, use the old reliable Carolina rig and a jerkbait for the first two days. Then start using the baits previously mentioned as the weather stabilizes. Look for baitfish on your electronics to tell you what pockets to start in and what depth to focus on.”
