Lake Jackson Fishing Reports – September 2021

Jackson: Level: 1 foot above full pool. Temp: Water temps in the main lake are in the mid 80s with cooler water in the 70s up the rivers. Clarity: The rivers are varying colors of stained water, and from mid-lake to the dam is clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Karl Pingry reports, “According to Chuck Croft, the fishing is tough. There is a topwater bite early. Try a black or white 1/4-oz. buzzbait. Target seawalls, rocks, stumps and blowdowns. One other bait to try shallow is a nose-hooked fluke in baby-bass color. After the sun gets up, you can try topwater in the shade or fish docks with a shaky-head worm or a small jig in black and blue. If you use your electronics, check the humps in 6 to 15 feet of water. A Carolina-rigged worm, a drop shot or a shaky-head worm would be Chuck’s recommendation. Use watermelon, watermelon-red or green-pumpkin colors. Expect September to be a tough month to find better fish until the water cools down and the weekend boat traffic starts to decline. Your best bet for bigger bass will be to target the cooler water up the rivers. Topwater, darker-colored worms and jigs will be your best choices for the month. A crankbait bite hopefully will start up mid to late September.”
