Lake Weiss Fishing Reports – July 2021
GON Staff | July 1, 2021
Weiss: Level: 0.1 feet low. Temp: Low 80s. Clarity: Stained.
Bass: Guide and tournament pro Mike Carter reports, “Weiss is in its summer mode, and the deeper patterns have turned on. There’s still a shallow bite, however. Covering a lot of seawalls early in the mornings with Whopper Ploppers and Pop Rs are the ticket for some solid Coosa River spotted bass to start your day. Later in the day, look for ledges in the mid lake and lower end areas. The main channel ledges have been producing very well with Carolina rigs and shaky head worms. Scanning these areas and looking for the more active schools has been the most effective way for finding consistent action. The recent rains have brought the water level back up, but this will be only for a short time and things will get back to normal.”
Guide Mark Collins reports, “Bass fishing is good. Most fish have moved to a summer pattern on main-lake points, roadbeds and the creek and river channels. Crankbaits and Carolina rigs are working well. Spinnerbaits and ChatterBaits in and around the grassbeds are still producing a few fish.”
Crappie: Guide Mark Collins reports, “Crappie fishing is fair. They have moved to the deeper brush. Spider rigging with live minnows over brush along the main-lake channels is the way to catch these summertime fish. Also try night fishing with live minnows or cast crappie jigs around and under lighted docks and piers, especially those with brushpiles.”
Stripers: Mark Collins reports, “Striper fishing is good. They are in the upper Chattooga River and the Cave Hole. Use live shad downlined and freelined to catch some striped bass on Weiss right now.”
