Registration For Wildlife Trapping Workshop Now Open

Recreational trapping is becoming more popular to outdoorsmen and avid hunters. Whether it be to help better manage the local deer population or simply get rid of unwanted animals around your home, an upcoming trapping workshop will provide information on how to properly trap and remove them from your land.

The workshop is presented by WRD and the Georgia Trappers Association and will take place June 13 from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30p.m. at the Ocmulgee PFA near Cochran.

The trapping workshop will teach how to properly trap many different species, including coyotes that affect deer populations.

“We want to better educate people on the different ways of trapping, how to identify that they may have a problem, and to make sure they are following guidelines that come with recreational trapping,” says Charlie Killmaster with WRD.

It will provide instruction on trapping coyotes, raccoons, opossums and beaver.

The workshop is limited to 40 people, and interested participants must register in advance. The minimum age requirement for attendance is 12. A fee of $35 (payable only by VISA or MasterCard) is required and includes lunch.

More trapping workshops are being planned throughout the state to provide more opportunities for those who cannot attend.
