Lake Blackshear Fishing Report – August 2020

Blackshear: Level: Full pool. Temp: High 80s. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Flint Murray reports, “With temperatures rising to their high peaks, the fish have become less active. Bites are in lesser quantity. Most fish are located around deeper banks with a lot of shade. Any shaded areas can hold fish. Fish are very wary this time of year, so they will bite few baits. Small topwaters around docks and cypress trees can get plenty of bites first thing in the morning, but after the sun rises, the bites will fade away on top. As it begins to get hot throughout the day, you will have to find a few docks away from all of the recreational boats that you can skip under. Low profile bites are key this time of year, light-weighted shaky heads with a Trick Worm or a light-weighted Zoom Dead Ringer are good choices. A few hours before dark a lot of white bass and largemouth will begin to start schooling. These fish can easily be caught on a squarebill or any other shallow crankbaits, as long as it is a shad color. As July fades away and goes into August, the fish will be doing a lot of similar activities as they are now. All fish are hunkering down somewhere around a shaded area.”
